PROCESS
As I collected various objects—bones from supermarkets and stones while mudlarking—I photographed and placed them in different settings, experimenting with how their meaning shifts. I chose etching as a primary technique because of its ability to produce rich tonal variations, depth, and textures that mirror the natural environment. The unpredictable nature of etching allows for exploration, encouraging deeper contemplation of objects and their placement.
Alongside etching, I also experimented with monoprinting and image transfers onto wood. I found monoprinting particularly intriguing, especially when using white spirit, as it created patterns resembling the cellular structures I observed under a microscope. Printing photographs of objects onto wood also fascinated me—the organic patterns of the material enhanced the imagery, making the prints feel more vivid and alive while reinforcing the relationship between nature and objects.
